It's hard to put into the words the feeling you get when you listen to a Rod Temperton penned track. I'm a big sucker for a well written songs. Rod definitely delivered stunners for years and when Quinch Jones was brought into the matrix we got nothing less than magic! Between Heatwave and the many songs that Sir Temperton has written for James, Ingram, Michael Jackson, Patti Austin and beyond, the more I realize that he's one of the main reasons I love modern day R&B music. Please enjoy 3 hours plus of musical history and may Rod Temperton's groovy soul rest in paradise!

Harlem born, Brooklyn bred, orphaned by adolescence & self proclaimed prodigy by his teenaged years, Michael Jones PKA Kashif Saleem's story is that of a miracle. By the age of 16 he joined & toured with B.T. Express. After a two album stint with the band he was let go as a result of his overly ambitious work ethic - he outpaced the band's expectations. Without hesitation Kashif surpassed being a session musician thrusting into an active music career acting as producer, arranger, composer & performer for future stars & established artists including Whitney Houston, Evelyn Champagne King, Fatback Band, Melba Moore, Average White Band, George Benson & Bill Withers. Kashif played an integral role in shaping the New York post-disco R&B sound, & heralded what many today label Boogie & Modern Soul music. He kept R&B progressive, dance floor friendly & edgy throughout the early 80's by embracing the latest technology - drums machines and synthesizers. I had the honor of meeting him many moons ago through one of my music mentors who grew up with him in Brooklyn. Although it was only a day's worth of interactions in my home studio, the visit was quite impactful to say the least. His wisdom and experience in the music industry was impressionable on my ambitious mind. His music raised me, the sound of Kashif highly influenced my sound as a producer. His debut solo album is in my top 10 favorite R&B records of all time. I practically learned how to mix by practicing with records like "Love Come Down", "So Fine" & "I Just Got To Have You". He was an amazing artist & human being. I can't believe he's gone but the music will surely live on. Kashif was a true innovator, scholar, humanitarian & master of music. May his soul rest in peace!

Everything Soulful from Everywhere!
I am Dj Spinna and I love music. I play what I feel and I feel what I play, literally. I didn't become a dj to be cool or part of a trend. I'm a dj because it's my ultimate get high and my destiny. It's one of the only forms of entertainment where you can be in front of masses of people and aurally control emotions and energy, without uttering a single word yourself, but letting the music be your mouthpiece...kinda like being a one man band. Djing is an expression that I take seriously. I have been fortunate to have lived through periods in time where soul, jazz, latin, funk, hip hop, rock, disco, new wave, reggae, house, techno, freestyle, punk, original electro etc, significantly impacted new york club life and dj culture. Discriminating against musical genres is something I consider intolerant. If there's an ounce of soul in it, it works for me. Many know my name as a producer in the world of hip hop, others from house music. Some people may not know me from any of my recorded work and only as a DJ. But, however you know me, understand that whatever I indulge myself in musically, my soul goes in. If you see me in a venue somewhere and my eyes are closed while behind the wheels, know that I'm internalizing the room, the people's energy and the music. If you've found my music online somewhere or have collected various vinyl pieces through the years, know that what came out is a reflection of my soul and whatever I felt when it was recorded. Miles Davis said there's only two kinds of music, good and bad. Thats all that really matters to me. I refuse to be put in a box, and I detest being controlled. I'm musically free and I do what I want to do. I'm blessed to have various platforms to provide the masses with my varied musical personas. The podcasts I post here will be another platform. There has been a great deal of hesitance on my part to post mixes online because I feel as though overly exposing your dj skills virally could dilute an artist's demand for live appearances, and allow for sucker dj's to blatantly bite (copy) your shit! But, after years of people harassing me for cd's and mixes I figured this is the best way to give back and expose my inner thoughts. So here we go. Keep your ears open and be on alert for what's to come. Music Is The World >< DJ Spinna
