I'm back! It's certainly been a while and many of you have been waiting for this.
So many good jams out that I had a hard time picking what to include in this episode. Featured here are my current remixes for Sir LSG featuring Brian Temba and Kafele Bandele, and Shaun Escoffery, my decade long collaborator with whom so many bangers were made. Turn it up, play loud!Dj Spinna Sade Mix

Happy 76th Birthday Marvin Gaye! Here's the sequel to the Marvin B-Day mix I did two years ago. Sorry I took so long to get this done but I believe the length of this one will make up for lost time. This mix is almost two hours long and filled with burners. Classics, a few unheard remixes and reworks by my brother Kenny Dope, John Morales Salaam Remi and myself, unreleased nuggets of some thangs and rare album cuts, singles and alternate takes of other thangs. I even snuck in Donny Hathaway's version of "What's Going On" as it's probably my favorite Marvin cover of all time. Spread the word!...

Sup Podcast peoples,
Ok, so I took a little over a year to put another mix up. My bad. Just been busy djing, making records and being a family man. The life of a dj right? Ok, no extensive dialogue here. I'm just inspired with all this great new music out. I had to zone out and release it into the universe. So here it goes!
1. Who Am I (French Twins Remix) - Boddhi Satva feat Athenai & C. Robert Walker
Cd length if you need to burn it. Bang it in your whip! I hope to be back sooner than later with more mixes. Don't hold your breath though, hahaaa

What's up fam,
Sometimes it's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that we're living in such a virtual
On the contrary, I love Serato. It allows for the traveling DJ to have their library with them at all times, ready for any situation. Sometimes though, I get lost in that digital realm and I miss the feeling of digging in the record boxes and identifying music by labels and artwork. Before using Serato it was even worse for me with CD's. Carrying up to three books or more of CD's with a gang of typed up track listings all over the place. CD's going bad on you due to wear and tear, and constantly having to rip and burn new music all the time. Plus for me, being a multi genre DJ, you could never have all your music with you using CD's. It became a nightmare!
Life seemed much simpler when it was just wax. Vinyl is still the best sounding format. It's the original way music is supposed to be heard. There's a human element to it. It makes sense that when the needle reacts from those microscopic wiggly lines in the grooves and those subs in the speaker boxes tremble in response, your body moves accordingly. It's all physics, it's all physical.
This mix is an all vinyl edition. Not a single mp3, aiff or wav file used. My laptop was disconnected. Every record in the mix was purchased from one of the last standing record stores in Brooklyn New York, Dope Jams. Luckily for me it's in my hood... well being the addict that I am I'm not sure if that's a good thing, (pause). You can check them out at Dopejams.net. They also do mail order. If you're an open minded progressive thinker, you'll love their selection. I even got some killer sought after classics in their used record bins, one of them being the last track in this mix.
I'm thankful that some artists, producers and label owners still consider vinyl a viable format. It doesn't sell as much as it used to years ago, but obviously there are other people in the world who share my sentiments. Listen to the words spoken by Nathaniel X on the first track in the mix. My feelings are the same brother, wherever you are! Long live the underground.
I don't usually like doing track listings but I'm making the exception this time to support the vinyl cause!

Marvin Pentz Gaye Jr. (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984)
The whole world knows that I'm a huge Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Prince buff.
Check these two youtube clips.
And a suggested read... Divided Soul: The Life Of Marvin Gaye by David Ritz (who actually co wrote Sexual Healing)
I grew up with his music like so many so I thought it was only right to bless the world with a mix. Included here
More Marvin heat to come shortly...
I am Dj Spinna and I love music. I play what I feel and I feel what I play, literally. I didn't become a dj to be cool or part of a trend. I'm a dj because it's my ultimate get high and my destiny. It's one of the only forms of entertainment where you can be in front of masses of people and aurally control emotions and energy, without uttering a single word yourself, but letting the music be your mouthpiece...kinda like being a one man band. Djing is an expression that I take seriously. I have been fortunate to have lived through periods in time where soul, jazz, latin, funk, hip hop, rock, disco, new wave, reggae, house, techno, freestyle, punk, original electro etc, significantly impacted new york club life and dj culture. Discriminating against musical genres is something I consider intolerant. If there's an ounce of soul in it, it works for me. Many know my name as a producer in the world of hip hop, others from house music. Some people may not know me from any of my recorded work and only as a DJ. But, however you know me, understand that whatever I indulge myself in musically, my soul goes in. If you see me in a venue somewhere and my eyes are closed while behind the wheels, know that I'm internalizing the room, the people's energy and the music. If you've found my music online somewhere or have collected various vinyl pieces through the years, know that what came out is a reflection of my soul and whatever I felt when it was recorded. Miles Davis said there's only two kinds of music, good and bad. Thats all that really matters to me. I refuse to be put in a box, and I detest being controlled. I'm musically free and I do what I want to do. I'm blessed to have various platforms to provide the masses with my varied musical personas. The podcasts I post here will be another platform. There has been a great deal of hesitance on my part to post mixes online because I feel as though overly exposing your dj skills virally could dilute an artist's demand for live appearances, and allow for sucker dj's to blatantly bite (copy) your shit! But, after years of people harassing me for cd's and mixes I figured this is the best way to give back and expose my inner thoughts. So here we go. Keep your ears open and be on alert for what's to come. Music Is The World >< DJ Spinna
